The goalkeeper of the national team of Montenegro, Matija Šarkić, died suddenly early this morning at the age of 27.

The beloved member of the "Brave Falcons", an eternally smiling guy, played for our "A" selection in nine games, in which he showed how much he means to this team. Together with his twin brother Oliver, he passed all the junior categories of the Montenegrin national team.

He was born on July 23, 1997. in Grimsby, England. He took his first football steps at the youth school of Belgian Anderlecht, after which he moved to Aston Villa, where his career on the Island began. He was a member of Wigan, Stratford, Livingston, to enter the big stage by coming to Wolverhampton. He excelled on loan at Shrewsbury, Birmingham and Stoke before signing for Millwall. And in the jersey of that iconic London club, he left his mark, which was yet to become part of a bigger and more beautiful story. Premature death stopped that and caused great pain to the Šarkic family.

The date and time of Matija Šarkić's funeral, as well as the commemoration, will be announced later.

The Football Association of Montenegro hereby expresses its sincere condolences to the Šarkic family.
