Montenegro national football team completed first training session today as part of preparations for the World Cup Qualifiers matches against the Czech Republic and Croatia.
The “Brave Falcons” host the Czech Republic on Friday, September 5, which, according to head coach Robert Prosinečki, is the most important match of this cycle.
- We know we play against the two strongest teams in the group, especially Croatia. But for now we must focus only on the first one. This is our set piece, match point — if we win the match we are in the race and have chances. The Czech Republic has shown good things but also where they’re vulnerable, especially after the match in Croatia where they lost 5–1. We believe we can get a good result. We have no right to slip up, no excuses — we must give our maximum and play the match properly, Prosinečki told reporters today.
Montenegro has had poor results against the Czech Republic, losing all six previous meetings with the upcoming opponent.
- I know the Czech Republic is that black cat. They beat us six times. I think it’s time to defeat them in Podgorica with a good atmosphere. Everyone is aware we have a big chance — if we win we can go to the additional qualifiers, maybe even further. So, I hope the fans’ support won’t be lacking, the coach said.
There are again squad problems.
- Osmajić has had issues, he went to Belgrade and we hope he can recover. We’ll wait until tomorrow to know his situation. We also have problems with Marušić — we’ll see what’s with him. Radulović withdrew for personal reasons; we’ll see everything during tomorrow,” Prosinečki said.
