Our national team will play their sixth match in the World Cup qualifiers tomorrow (Monday)...
The Montenegrin national players completed their final training session at Maksimir Stadium this evening, ahead of their clash with Croatia. The "Falcons" trained with the full team, spending an hour preparing final details for the match against the Croatian team.
Ahead of the training, Robert Prosinečki and Stevan Jovetić, the coach and captain, addressed questions from the media, expressing their hopes for a good match where the team would present itself in the best possible light.
- We're coming to Zagreb at a difficult time, after the defeat against the Czech Republic, where we were just a little short... There were good and bad moments, and it's certain we could have done more in that encounter. We definitely want to give our maximum in Zagreb, play a good match, and showcase ourselves in the best way. We know who Croatia is, especially me, a team that has achieved big results in major competitions for years. There is a strong national team spirit where everyone gives their best. It won't be an easy match at all; they want a good result because three points would nearly qualify them, but we'll try to play as well as we can, said the Croatian expert.
Prosinečki emphasizes that everyone in Montenegro's team is well-acquainted with the qualities of Croatian players.
- We know the Croatian players; they don’t need a special introduction. It won't be easy, of course. They didn't shine against the Faroese, but they won. That's Croatia – they take the three points even when not playing well. This will be a different match. I hope we can exploit some weaknesses—they have them too—and achieve a good result and possibly surprise them, said Prosinečki.
The coach of the "Falcons," who began his coaching career in Croatia's national team staff, returns to the stadium where he started his playing career.
- It's a special feeling; I started here at 10 years old in Dinamo. Zagreb is my city, where I live. It's a nice feeling, and I hope tomorrow will be nicer, even though the Croatians are favorites, said our team's coach.
The captain of the "Falcons" highlights that the team was emotionally drained after the match with the Czech Republic but will give their all at Maksimir against Croatia.
- We were emotionally drained after the Czechs. Had we won, we'd still be in the race. But it is what it is. Perhaps it's good we're playing so soon to forget about that encounter. Croatia is a complete team, and I wouldn't single anyone out—they've been at the top for years, finishing second once and third at the World Cup. We expect Croatia at their maximum, and I believe it will be a beautiful match, said Jovetić.
The match between Croatia and Montenegro will take place on Monday, September 8, at 20:45 at Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb.
