Three points for the Montenegro national team in the penultimate match of World Cup qualification…
The Montenegro national team defeated Gibraltar with a score of 2:1 in the penultimate round of qualifying for the World Cup.
The match played at Europa Point Stadium was decided in the first half when all three goals were scored. The "Falcons" once again had to chase a deficit, as the hosts scored from what turned out to be their only shot on target against Igor Nikić.
Gibraltar took the lead in the 20th minute when Jessop capitalized on a good pass after the ball was won back and sent it into the net.
Right on the next attack, our team had a chance to equalize - Vukotić found himself in a promising position, but the opposing goalkeeper denied his attempt. In the same attack, a penalty was awarded to our team for a foul on Adžić, but after a VAR intervention lasting several minutes, the initial decision was overturned.
The "Falcons" had to wait until the 33rd minute for their equalizer, which came from a free kick on the left side executed brilliantly by Vasilije Adžić - our midfielder took a powerful shot that found the far corner of the opponent's goal.
A few minutes later, Nikola Krstović had a great opportunity to score a second goal for our team, but goalkeeper Hankins emerged victorious in the duel with our striker.
Ten minutes later, our team took the lead, again preceded by a lengthy VAR intervention. An obvious foul on Janković in the penalty area was only awarded after the video referee’s assistance, and the penalty kick was converted into a goal by Nikola Krstović.
In the second half, our team controlled the match and attempted several times to secure a more convincing victory. Hankins saved good attempts from Osmajić and Đukanović, while Rubežić’s attempt from five meters went over the crossbar of the home goal.
Our next match will be on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the City Stadium in Podgorica against the Croatian national team.
